There are few sporting events in the world bigger than a UFC pay-per-view featuring the “notorious” trash-talking Irshman Conor McGregor. So it’s with great excitement and anticipation that the first UFC PPV of 2020 will feature McGregor in his long-awaited return to the octagon as he headlines UFC 246 this Sunday against fan favourite Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
It seemed like McGregor was destined to hang up his boots following his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, and although a Welterweight fight against Cerrone is not the same highs of his previous main events, it still poses an interesting encounter.
How has McGregor improved since we last saw him? And what will Cerrone’s game plan be if McGregor wants to keep this fight on his feet? McGregor is cleaner and quicker in the stand up game, and is certain to want to make a big statement in this fight.
Cerrone has an underrated ground game, and if he can survive the early carnage then perhaps he can work into the match and get McGregor to the floor.
However sports betting punters are pretty firm that this should be an easy win for McGregor as he looks to get himself back into the title conversation. McGregor is the $1.35 favourite at Sportsbet to get the victory.
The UFC 246 lineup also features former champions Holly Holm, Anthony Pettis and Claudia Gadelha and some exciting prelims which should provide an exciting card for fight fans.
